macOS 14+ · Native · Skeuomorphic
RealBook replaces cold, scrolling PDF readers with a tactile, 3D animated book that feels alive in your hands.
v1.0.3 · 3 MB · Apple Silicon
A tactile PDF reader
Crafted for reading
RealBook isn't another PDF viewer. It's a return to the physical pleasure of reading — translated to the screen with care.
Physics-aligned 3D page-turn animations with synchronized easing feel indistinguishable from the real thing.
Multi-layered cache eliminates flickering and loading flashes. Every page appears the exact frame it's mounted.
Leather-bound cover, spine shadows, paper grain textures, and a red thread binding detail. No expense spared on craft.
Left and right page stacks redistribute fluidly as you read. The book's thickness changes with every turn.
Built-in update manager delivers seamless upgrades directly. No App Store middleman. One click, atomic installs.
Built entirely in Swift & SwiftUI for Apple Silicon. Just 3 MB. Zero bloat, maximum performance.
Built with intention
The heart of RealBook is a custom 3D animation engine built on SwiftUI with SceneKit-inspired page-flip transforms. Each page turn uses a two-phase animation (ease-in / ease-out) with real-time shadow rendering.
PDF pages are rendered at display resolution via Core Graphics into an NSCache with tiered eviction. High-res snapshots eliminate flicker during rapid page navigation.
Distributed as a signed, notarized .dmg. Update system uses Cloudflare Pages for version checks and atomic bundle swapping via a secure shell script.
Skeuomorphic by conviction. The interface mimics physical book construction — leather binding, paper grain, spine curvature — translated into code with restraint and purpose.
What's next
RealBook is a small, deliberate project. The path forward is shaped by the people who pick it up — download milestones unlock the next chapter.

Enroll in Apple Developer Program
Once 100 people have downloaded RealBook, the next milestone is to enroll in the Apple Developer Program and ship a notarized build. No more Gatekeeper friction — clean first-launch on any Mac.
Paid · Price TBD
With the notarization milestone behind us, RealBook moves to a paid model and grows into a fuller reading tool. Two flagship additions: native text-to-speech and handwritten-style notes.
No subscriptions. No tracking. Just a beautifully crafted piece of software that treats reading with the respect it deserves.
